2009 LAOUT Winter League

What: Winter League 2009 (the 23rd annual) is a Los Angeles area coed league of pre-made teams. This is the 12th year Winter League is being run by LAOUT.

Where: Most Winter League games are played at the Balboa Sports Complex in scenic Encino, CA, but a few are played at Northridge Recreation Center.

When: Most games will be played Monday - Friday nights and begin at 8:00 pm. There will be no games on Martin Luther King Day or Presidents' Day (never fear, Valentine’s Day is on Saturday this year). Each Winter League team will play one game per week during the regular season. The regular season will begin Monday, January 5th. IN CASE OF RAIN, call 818.756.9807, Andy Bandit at 323.219.8058, or email or call Sarah at 818.825.1448. DO NOT CALL ANY OTHER BALBOA NUMBER. IF PEOPLE CALL THE OFFICE AGAIN, WE WILL LOSE THE FIELDS!!! The one-day league championship will be on Sunday March 8 at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks War Memorial Park, which is southwest of the intersection of Van Nuys & Magnolia Blvds.

Who:
1) Any ultimate player who lives in the LA area may play. Anyone can form a team, but there are many teams which are established from previous years that may need more players. If you played last year you probably know who to contact this year. If you don't have a team but would like to play, contact Sarah and she will try to find you a team.
2) In order to play in the championship tournament, you must have played at least 2 regular season league games. All teams must submit an Opening Day Roster. Teams may add players during the season and there are no roster size limits (but see #3 for info about women), but no player may be added to a team after the conclusion of the fifth week of the season. Final rosters will be due on Sunday, February 8.
3) Because the lack of women is always a problem, every team is limited to 6 women until all other teams have that many. If/when every team has at least 6 women, you may talk to Sarah about adding more women to your roster.

Other Stuff:
1) This is a coed league. This year, the format will be 5m/2f or 4m/3f, offense chooses. HOWEVER, offense may choose 4m/3w only if each team has at least 4 women present.
2) Shirts will not be provided in our continuing efforts to keep costs at a minimum, so please bring both a dark and a white shirt unless your team is coordinated enough to all show up in fluorescent orange (in this case make sure the other team is not also planning to wear orange).
3) We will not be a UPA sanctioned league this year, so you need not be a UPA member to play.

Captains: To register your team, email Sarah with your team name and she will send you a link to submit your tentative roster and pay the $500 league fee. Registration deadline: DECEMBER 1st.

Include your team name and tentative roster, and also email Sarah to let her know the check is in the mail. Opening Day Rosters will be due Sunday, January 4.

Direct any questions, including requests for a team or for more players for your team, to Sarah Davis-Weyman.
