Summer League 2009 Tournament

Jul 31st, 2009 | By AndyBandit | Category: summer league

Here’s all the information you need to know about the tournament.  There will be no captain’s meeting, because everything I would say will be right here.  And who wants to get up a half an hour earlier anyway?

DATE: Sunday, August 23.

LOCATION:  Field of Dreams, San Pedro.  Same place as the last couple years.  On the corner of Westmont Dr. and North Gaffey St.

Take the 110 South to Channel St. exit
Turn right from the offramp onto Gaffey St.
Keep straight until you hit Westmont Dr. (You’ll see the sign for the Field of Dreams on a hill to your right.)
Right onto Westmont Dr.
Right into the parking lot.

If you’re coming from Long Beach or parts South, it appears the best way is to take Ocean Blvd. west, across the Vincent Thomas Bridge, just past the 110 to Gaffey St., take a right onto Gaffey and follow the above directions.

If your name is Rob Severson, you can walk there.

START TIME: First round begins at 9AM.  Second round begins at 10:45.  All Co-ed teams except for the 1 and 2 seeds play in the first round.  For Men’s, the 1, 4, 5 & 8 seeds have 1st round byes.

BRACKETS: Click here to see how the brackets work.  And you can also see the potential playoff matches if the season were to end today.

RULES: Mostly the same as the regular season.  I’ll have these at the tournament for you.

11th edition rules, unless otherwise noted below.
- Games for both Co-ed and Men’s are to 13.  Finals to 15.
- Mirror halves at 7.
- One time out per half plus a floater.
- No time-outs once the soft cap has been reached.
- No time-outs in overtime. Overtime begins at 12-12. 14-14 in finals.
- You may sub up to two players during a time-out.
- Foot blocks are illegal.  They’re counted as a foul.  Attempted foot blocks are a violation.
- Soft cap means complete the point, then add 2 to the leading total.  Still win by 2. (One horn blow for soft cap.)
- Hard cap means complete the point, then add 1 to leading total.  Game plays until that point is reached, regardless of how far behind a team is. (Two horn blows for hard cap.)

PARTY: The party this year will be at the 7th Street Chophouse.  465 W. 7th St., San Pedro.  You can get there immediately after the tournament ends at 6.  They’ll start serving food at 6:15.  Players under 21-years-old are welcome, but obviously can’t drink booze.

It’s really easy to get there from the fields.  And I’ll have these directions at the tournament for you.

- Left out of the parking lot onto Westmont Drive.
- Left turn onto Gaffey St.
- Left turn onto W. 7th St.
- Arrive at 465 W. 7th St.
- Eat.  Drink.  Party.  AND………..

  1. not quite walking distance, but close

  2. Does our entry fee to the league get us anything at the party, mainly drinks and/or food?

  3. It gets you food. It gets you drinks. AND it affords you a chance to win prizes in the 70’s Dance Competition.

  4. Which player(s) will show up to the tourney and party in the slickest, most stylish 70s outfit??? My money’s on Seth.

Who’s going to display the funky rhythms, deep grooves and stamina to capture the crown at the “Dancing With The ULTIMATE Stars” Dance Contest? Will El Presidente Bandit sufficiently liquor himself up - to JUST the Perfect degree - in order to pull it off??? Find out Sunday night… Adidas gift cards to the top finishers.

  5. Any idea if someone with ankle wrapping skills will be there?

  6. Found: White gaia shirt with purple sleeves (women’s XL) - if nobody claims it I’m adding it to my collection.

  7. FOUND… at the party @ 7th Street Chophouse in San Pedro… one pair of Giorgio Armani Glasses (and case)… looks to be woman’s glasses.
