Last night’s celebrity mascot would’ve been Fred Savage. And he probably should’ve shown up and worn a blue shirt, cause they definitely needed another player on Blue Öyster Cult as they took on the Big Red Machine in Men’s League. Running savage the whole game, Blue actually made a good game of it, as both teams ran zones for most of the first half. The score stayed tight until 11-10, and Blue had the chance to tie it a few feet from the goal line, but a costly turnover, followed by an immediate Todd Krumpe huck to Barrs Lang meant a fast 2 point swing that seemed to take the wind out of Blue’s sails. Despite some inspiring play from Mark Miller & Biclops, and some great D’s by Andrew Blythe, Blue just didn’t have the legs to keep up with Red’s devastating long game and lost 17-11. ….. By the way, how do people not notice where Barrs is before making any throw? Time and time again we saw him pick off passes with lightning speed like Mr. Miyagi snapping flies with his chopsticks. If “More Barrs in More Places” wasn’t such a great slogan, I’d call him Invisi-Barrs, because that’s the only way to explain it. ….. My favorite moment of the game was the time-out late in the game where Blue players just kind of rested in their own little areas. They didn’t bother to huddle. Didn’t bother to talk about anything. I mean, what can you say? You’re running savage and playing your heart out. Why exhaust brain cells. I think they deserved the rest.

In Co-ed, savage was also the theme as Big Yellow Taxi started the game with only 4 women, and then lost Rachel Mitnick at halftime with the score 8-2 in favor of Golda Meir. Gold agreed to play 4 men/3 women despite having more women at the game. But when the score went to 11-3, Gold started playing 3 men/4 women and let Yellow keep their 4/3 alignment. From that point on, Gold took it 4 to 3 over the final 7 points to win 15-6. ….. I may become a broken record on this, but Llama was once again the offensive star. She’s always open. I think I’ve found my favorite target.
