Summer League 8/3/10 Recap

DEXY’S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS vs. CASTLE GRAYSKULL
by Frankie Rho

midnight wins 15-11.

the margin doesn’t do justice to how close this game really was. midnight played with a very small squad, 5 women (brocc, frosty, lexy, lisa, peso) and 4 men (frankie, joe, machina, neil). playing against a loaded gray squad was definitely a daunting challenge. AJ and seth have obviously been awesome captains and proven it by winning the last two summer leagues.

we got the break to start the game, but gray roared back with three straight points. with a mix of zone and junk, we came back with a little run of our own to take a 5-4 lead. we eventually got a couple more breaks to take a 8-5 lead. i think we traded a few points but got a key break to go up 12-7. gray stormed back and when they broke us to close within 13-11, a comeback win looked like a distinct possibility. after a couple turnovers, we were able to put the disc into the end zone to go up 14-11 and closed the game out with a fjr to joe forbes connection.

one of the highlights of the game was an outrageous layout grab cliff manahan had. unfortunately, he was out the back of the end zone. it was crazy good.

  1. How come Frankie’s shift key only works when he types “AJ”?

  2. That’s a great point. Not even fjr gets the capital letters. Such reverence for AJ.

  3. Thanks for the shout-out, it feels good to make the highlights even if the point didn’t technically count!

  4. what’s a shift key? (yes, i realize the irony in this statement as i’ve already used it three times in these two sentences).

typing aj lower case invites the reader to read aj as a word and not initials. fjr would never be mistaken for a word. e.e. cummings lives. when he’s not dead.

on a side note, machina might be the best last round pick ever (i’m sure that kiosk will dispute this on the technicality that machina and spectre were baggaged together). machina and spectre have proven that sandbagging is alive and well in westwood.
