What is Summer League?
Summer League is a coed draft league organized by the Los Angeles Organization of Ultimate Teams (LAOUT). This is LAOUT's 9th year organizing a draft league.
Who can play?
Summer League is open to Ultimate players of all skill levels who live in the greater Los Angeles area. The league is "beginner friendly."
When and where is Summer League played?
The 11 week season begins June 6th and ends August 17. Games are played Monday - Thursday nights, 8:30-10:30 at the Balboa Sports Complex in Encino, CA. Each team will play one game per week.
How do I register?
Print out a Summer League Registration Form. Fill it out and send it, along with your $45 check payable to LAOUT, to the address listed on the form. Your registration form must be POSTMARKED by May 19, 2006. Once you have registered, you will be drafted onto a team and then contacted by your captain. All players will receive a shirt and a disc.
What if I missed the deadline and still want to play?
Any players who sign up late (after the draft) can ONLY be added to teams to replace injured players or players who drop out. Think of it as a crowded bar on Sunset; you can't get in until someone else leaves. Players may only be added to teams with the consent of the Commissioner. Don't just add ringers on your own.
Do I need to be a UPA member to play?
Nope, not this year.
When and where is the tournament?
The location and date of the tournament is still being determined. It will either be Saturday or Sunday August 19 or 20. There will, of course, be a post -tourney party, also TBD. Check back for more info.
Snakes on a Disc???
New Line Cinema will be releasing the film Snakes on a Plane starring Samuel L. Jackson on August 18, the weekend of the tournament. See the trailer here. This is a great Hollywood story. The title was just a filler, intended to be replaced with something like "Passenger 32". But Sam Jackson threatened to walk out on production if they changed the title, saying "I signed on for Snakes on a Plane". It’s so brilliant in its ridiculous simplicity that I had to tie it in to Summer League. In honor of the film, popcorn will be served at the tournament.
