Loma Linda Coed Thanksgiving Can Tournament

What: The sixth (almost) annual one day coed tournament to collect Thanksgiving food donations.

When: Sunday November 17, 2002

Where: Loma Linda University, Loma Linda California (near San Bernardino, almost 1 1/2 hours east of LA, depending on traffic). Click here for directions.

How: Send a check for $25 by SEPTEMBER 23 to Mike Tamada, Institutional Research Office, Occidental College, 1600 Campus Road, Los Angeles CA 90041
Warning! This tournament always fills up and every year we have to say no to several teams. Early bids will get some preference; late bids will get looked off.

How Much: $25 per team (make checks out to Mike Tamada) plus AT LEAST 7 cans of vegetarian food. If you forget ahead of time, Loma Linda Market is just a couple of pulls away from the fields and is open at 8 AM. Last time, players brought 1780 cans! The tournament goal this year is to top 2000 cans. The team that brings the most cans per player gets to choose pull/receive and shirt color for its playoff game.

Format: 4:3 male/female ratio on the field. 5 fields, 12 or 13 teams. If we do squeeze in 13 teams, this will mean *6* rounds of play, with some teams getting *2* byes. In almost all cases, one of those byes will be a first-round bye. But this cannot be guaranteed. There's a chance that a team might end up with 2 non-first-round byes. If this bugs you and you'd rather not play in a 13-team tournament, but are okay with 12, mention it.

Extras: In the past we've had some food and fruit to give to the players; no assurances that that will happen this year but we'll see.

Reminders: Loma Linda University is a DRY campus with really nice fields. Please do not bring alcohol, smokes, or any other controlled substance to the fields or parking lot, so that we don't risk losing the use of these fields. Also no dogs. Please help pick up all trash at the end. Thank you.
