2007 Winter League Tournament

*Don't forget to set your clock ahead Saturday night. Everyone will laugh at you if you are late because you forgot!*

Where: Balboa (same old same old).

When: Sunday, March 11, 2007. The tournament will run on time and games will be capped accordingly, so make sure your team is ready to start at game time.

Schedule:

Format: Two divisions. Only 19 of the 20 teams will be there, so the format is somewhat unconventional. The top thirteen teams from the regular season will begin in Division I, the bottom six will begin in Division II. After the pre-quarters round, two of the Division I teams will drop into Division II to complete an eight team single elimination bracket. All teams are guaranteed at least three games and I encourage you to play out all of your consolation games. Here is an Excel spreadsheet with the format. Empire, Pirates, Cardgage, Flying Squirrels & Swingers have a first round bye.

Games will be played to 13, with a margin of at least two goals. The score will be capped at 15. There will be no soft cap, but games will be hard capped exactly 5 minutes before the end of each round. This means the game is over after the point during which the hard cap occurs. If the cap occurs between points, play one more point. If the score is tied at the end of the point during which the hard cap occurs, teams play until one additional goal is scored.

A mirror halftime will occur when one team's number of goals first reaches 7. Halftime will last five minutes.
Overtime occurs when the score is tied at 12. Play will continue until either a two-goal margin or the cap is achieved.
Each team will have one time-out per half. Each team is permitted exactly one time-out in overtime. Time-outs will be 70 seconds in duration.
Finals will be played to 15, with a margin of at least two goals. The score will be capped at 17 goals. I'm hoping I won't have to time cap the finals,
but if it is running really long I will. We will have UPA certified observers available for the finals.

Coed rules will be the same as during the regular season. To review:
If both teams have four or more women present, play will be 5m/2f or 4m/3f, with offense dictating the gender ratio.
If one or both teams have three or fewer women present, play will be 5m/2f.

The criteria for determining the final standings are as follows:
1) Winning Percentage against in division opponents
2) Head-to-Head
3) Total wins against in division opponents
4) Point differentials, counting games against all common opponents.
5) Point differentials, counting games against all common opponents, excluding each team's best and worst differentials.
6) Points scored, counting games against all common opponents.
7) Points scored, counting games against all common opponents, excluding each team's best and worst scores.
8) Sum of the square roots of the absolute values of the point differentials, counting games against all common opponents.
9) Coin Flip

Based on these criteria, the final regular season standings are:
1 Empire
2 Pirates
3 Senor Cardgage
4 KONG
5 Marshall
6 Thumper 2
7 Homer's Disc
8 PIST
9 Tarmac
10 Barrel of Hurt
11 Team Venture
12 John McGuirk
13 Jarnspikar
14 Dradis
15 Detox
16 Caltech
17 GhettoMidas
18 Flying Squirrels
19 Swingers
20 TBD

Refreshments: 5 gallons of water will be provided for each team as well as some field food, but you will probably want to have more provisions on hand than that, so plan accordingly.

Party: Starts at 6 pm at Harper's Sports Bar & Grille at 19333 Business Center Drive, Northridge 91324-3528 (same place as last year). Directions from Balboa: Take the 101 "North" (it's actually going west at this point) to exit 24 (Tampa Ave), and go R. After about 4 miles go L on Business Center Dr, and the complex where the bar is will be on your immediate right. It's about 7 miles from the fields. There will be finger foods and beverages provided for everyone. Food will be served buffet style. We will have a $1000 tab and all drinks will be happy hour priced. Once the tab runs out, people are on their own; however, happy hour prices on drinks will continue until 8pm. The tab will last longer if people limit themselves to ordering draft beer (domestic or imported) and well drinks. Ordering beer by the pitcher is encouraged.
